EXPERIMENTAL THERAPY AXIS/Q-CROC

The therapeutic axis of the FRSQ network is an entity created by the Center of Experimental Therapy for Cancer of Montreal (CTECM) located at the Jewish General Hospital and is comprised of Quebec researchers dedicated to applied cancer research. Their mission is to develop new therapeutic paradigms for the benefit of the entire community. To this day, the CTECM boasts many clinical and fundamental researchers from many Quebec universities (McGill University, University of Montreal, University of Laval and University of Sherbrooke) and affiliated research institutes (Lady Davis Institute of medical research, McGill University Health Center, Armand Frappier National Scientific Research Institute, Ste-Justine Hospital Research Centre, Biotehnology Research Institute-National Research Council of Canada, Centre de Recherche Clinique et Évaluative du Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec (CHUQ) and the Sherbrooke University Health Center.

Our theme distinguishes itself by its focus on the strategic development of new therapies having real clinical and economic implications. The Center is divided into four scientific themes based on the expertise and collaboration of its members:

  • Research and characterization of new molecules with anti-cancerous properties
  • Discovery of new molecular targets involved in cancer
  • Research and development in genetic and cellular cancer therapy
  • Research on the prevention, genetics and risks of cancer

The CTECM collaborates with many leading edge companies in biotechnology and pharmacology, including the important cancer centers in Canada. Moreover, a bridge with the bio-pharmaceutical industry is an integral part of the development plan for the experimental therapeutic axis for the purpose of rapidly developing new cancer treatments.

The dynamic of the collaboration between the members was well received by Canadian granting organizations and resulted in the creation of an important infrastructural project approved by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, the Minister of Health and Social Services of Quebec, and the Minister of Economic and Regional Development. The construction of this 40,000 sq ft center permit the centralization of activities, including the establishment of common services and technological platforms under one roof. hence promoting cooperation between researchers and clinical researchers in a multi-institutional network
